Dear Marvin Community,
As I enter my eighth year as principal of Marvin Elementary, I continue to be deeply grateful for the relationships, memories, and shared successes we’ve built together as a school community. It has been a true honor to watch our students grow into confident, capable learners and to collaborate with such dedicated staff, families, and community partners. Marvin is a special place, and I am proud of the strong foundation we’ve created together.
A little about me… I was born and raised in Bakersfield, California. After graduating from high school, I attended Fresno State for two years before transferring to Cal State Fullerton, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Child and Adolescent Development. I went on to complete my Master’s in Curriculum Design with an emphasis on teaching English as a Second Language.
I began my career with San Diego Unified in 2002 as a classroom teacher at Birney Elementary. Over the years, I taught at Cherokee Point and Rodriguez Elementary before serving as an English Learner Support Teacher (ELST) at the district level. I later became Vice Principal at Ericson Elementary, then Principal at Fay Elementary, and in 2015, I joined the Marvin community—one of the most rewarding experiences of my professional journey.
Over these past eight years, we have worked together to cultivate a culture of leadership, belonging, and academic excellence. Through programs like Leader in Me, our focus on social-emotional learning, and our strong home-school partnerships, we have built a community where every child is seen, valued, and supported. My ongoing commitment is to provide steady, compassionate leadership that empowers both students and staff to reach their highest potential.
I continue to believe that our success is rooted in collaboration. Parents, teachers, support staff, and administrators all play vital roles in encouraging children to become active, engaged learners. Your partnership and trust make all the difference, and together we will continue to ensure every Marvin Mustang thrives academically, socially, and emotionally.
I look forward to another year of growth, joy, and shared accomplishments. Thank you for allowing me the privilege of serving this remarkable community. Here’s to continuing the Marvin tradition of excellence—where students, staff, and families work hand in hand to make every child the best they can be!
Sincerely,
Mr. Tovar
